Measure A passes easily - 70 percent

Measure A, the $23.8 million bond measure for Selma Unified School District, unofficially passed as of Tuesday night with 69.93 percent of the votes. The measure will make the district eligible for $4 million in matching state funds.The goal of Measure A is to provide funds for construction and maintenance of district buildings. Possible projects that are top-priority include fourteen additional permanent classrooms and an expanded cafeteria for Selma High, the replacement or renovation of 50-year-old restrooms, a new K-6 elementary school, classrooms for Eric White Elementary and Lincoln Middle School, and new shower and locker room facilities for Selma High.Other possible additions are expanded student support facilities, furnishings and equipment, new and upgraded electrical systems for computer technology, upgraded outdoor lighting and fire alarm systems, the replacement of the 40-year-old Selma High swimming pool, and various other health and safety improvements that may be revealed by construction/modernization, such as plumbing or gas line breaks or dry rot.Selma residents will pay an additional $52 per $100,000 of assessed value of their property.

A new version of the company's flagship integrated production control system, CS 3000 R3 Release 3.08, has been announced by Yokogawa Electric.

The enhanced functionality of the new version allows the integrated use of data from throughout a plant and eases the task of creating an environment for the efficient monitoring of plant operations. In addition, an alarm and event integration function has been introduced that sends only optimal alarms to the right person at the right time. This counters the increase in information - in particular, the increased number of alarms that are generated as a result of system integration - and contributes to the implementation of safe operations.

Cameras will boost security at 320th library

The King County Library System is planning to install a security camera system at the branch. The goal is to deter illegal activity at a branch that's been popular with both law-abiding patrons and criminals.

Since 2003, four burglaries have occurred at the agency's 43 branches, with three of those happening at the 320th branch.

Two of the 320th branch burglaries, including one this past summer, resulted in stolen computer work stations that cost about $2,500 to replace.

Break-ins at the Federal Way 320th Library have some residents concerned about the state of security at the branch.

KCLS Associate Director Greg Smith said the agency has some theories why the 320th branch seems to be a more popular target for thefts and vandalism.

"We think it's partly due just because of the location of the library, because it's kind of secluded in a more residential area," Smith said.

Net sales for the first quarter ended September 30, 2006 remained relatively constant at $14 million. The net income for the quarter increased 17% to $952,000 or $0.05 per fully diluted share, compared to net income of $815,000, or $0.04 per share, for the same year ago period.

Results for the quarter were paced by sales increases in the Company's Alarm Lock electronic locking devices and Continental Instruments access control products. Gross Margins rose to 40% in the current quarter as compared to 36% in the same quarter a year ago as a result of a more favorable product mix, better overhead absorption and a decrease in the inventory reserve of approximately $150,000.
